Good day from the land of wonders, where everything is possible, people are united, and movie theaters await us with bated breath...
Did you recognize where I am? In a world of my own making, of course. Here. There. It doesn't matter. Here we fall and rise together, there are many possibilities, and great joy too. Two days ago, I landed in Bulgaria with a single mission, with another fulfilled dream:
Starting February 23rd “Kaval Park” is getting released in cinemas across Bulgaria!
Yes. Hooray! Ever since we embarked on the world tour in August 2022, I've been dreaming of releasing the film in movie theaters. I wish to fulfill Alexander Eppler’s desire to return to Bulgaria. To return in the most beautiful way possible. On the big screen. Along a path ordained from Above, a destiny he could hardly have guessed. Or maybe he knew all along…
The cinematic journey is a mystery...
May many people meet with the soul wisdom Alexander offers in the film! Not for me or my career, but because Bulgaria yearns for this film. Because "Kaval Park" is in our hearts. Your presence at the screenings; your tears after the film; the silence of a deep bow have kept me going.
I knew we would get here because shortly after we started the world tour, the following image etched itself in my mind:
An image of a billboard with the two hands passing heritage, an entire culture onwards. Forward. I must extend a heartfelt thank you to Maria Apostolova, who from day one has been the graphic designer for the film. Here is what Alexander, who has ran the advertising agency Crops in Bulgaria for 15 years, says:
One of the sunniest ad campaigns in a long time!
No matter how anxious I’m about the number of people who will show up for the film, I find something to rejoice in. The fact that people in Varna, Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv, and other cities will see our billboards every day, for a month, is a small victory for the entire creative team.
Imagine my joy when friends started sending photographs from the bus stops in Sofia.
Should you feel inspired by our journey and the film, please share this email with friends in Bulgaria. Tell them about the film. Invite them to watch it. The Bulgarian version of the email is here. Why not pay it forward and buy them a ticket!
The cinema chains in the malls refused to take the film. They told us they don't usually show documentary films. But we have 18 independent, small cinemas in the country that we are working with. With your support, with collective efforts, we can show that films like "Kaval Park" need to be on the big screen. And not just one, but a 100!
While I'm in Bulgaria, I will write to you more often with many surprises. The first one follows… We wouldn't have gotten this far without the tireless work of Maria Apostolova, Zornitsa Petkova, Yulia Nenova, and Gabriela Mondashka. Ladies - you are wonderful!
Here is the surprise video with never before seen footage. Enjoy!
Big hugs from Bulgaria!
Bogdan
