Dear friends and family!
It’s hard to believe it’s been three weeks since here in Bulgaria! Two more months to go and it feels as if the journey is just starting. Just starting because I finally get a chance to gather impressions and thoughts on paper. To start writing to you again!
You can see photos and read about the premiere of “Kaval Park” in entry #2 “After A World Premiere”.
Three letters spelling “sea”
In Bulgaria, in mid August, business as usual has stopped. Everyone is at the seaside. I am not used to demanding a vacation by the sea every summer. For my countrymen this vacation is a given. Every summer, no questions asked. Some travel by train. Most by car. And then, many hitchhike.
We arrived to Ahtopol by train and then, bus. Our place overlooks the bay and the sunsets. We have settled for a week in the old part of town which used to be a Roman fortress.
We are in history and history is in us. We are in time and time is in us.
We have had five showings of Kaval Park. Audiences are loving the immersion and experience. Many say it’s the best documentary they have ever seen. Today I worked on our film website with the team at Social Cloud - a startup in Plovdiv by a friend of mine who used to work for Microsoft and has now made it his mission to employee and develop young talent here in Bulgaria.
It’s after 8pm. 10am in Seattle and I’m on the phone on a 45 minute wait with Immigration. My US citizenship interview is scheduled for early September. I will miss the date because I’ll still be touring here. My parents are really worried. A US citizenship is every immigrant’s dream. I will have to reschedule the appointment. And the dream...
The automated voice asks me to have my alien registration number ready. I do. I have begun to build a space station in Bulgaria. And a spaceship to travel between here and there - with dual citizenship and a slight case of double vision…
My conformation for the new appointment consists of many numbers and a few letters. It ends with the three letters spelling “sea.”
P.S. When you decide to visit Ahtopol, Bulgaria let me know and I’ll give you the number of our landlord here who also happens to be a musician and poet! You’ll be in good hands!
